Yes, your guests will hear every word spoken clearly during the ceremony.
I'll have one mini wireless clip-on microphone on your officiant, and a second mini mini wireless clip-on microphone on one of the persons getting married. These microphones have no cables or bulky battery packs; they are about as small as your thumbnail so you don't even know they are there.
If you have also a person(s) doing a speech, or reading, during the ceremony I will setup another mini wireless microphone on a stand for them.
I use a sleek wireless speaker system that can be placed anywhere and the system it's so compact I don't need a table full of equipment that looks ugly in photos. Here is what it looks like:
You'll get access to an amazing music planning app called that has everything you need to add all of your music preferences, specific song requests that want to hear, and tell me anything that you do NOT want to hear on your day. You'll also have a Zoom meeting where I'll answer any questions you have and show you how this app is going to make your wedding music planning immediately easier!
Yes! This day is all about celebrating you two and who you are. We'll talk about your music preferences for each part of the day to make sure the energy & vibe is just right. For dance music we'll talk about what you love, what you like, what you don't like, and everything in between. Then I'll constantly be reading the room to find the perfect mix between your requests/preferences and your guests energy, to keep the party going until the very end of the night.
1. Dance lighting: (8) 5 ft. wireless lighting tubes that can be placed around the dancing area to light everyone up without blinding anyone or ruining photos.
2. Room Uplighting: (30) wireless uplights that are placed on the floor next to the walls & beams to make the entire space feel like a party.
3. All white modern DJ podium-style booth.
4. For speakers I use LD Systems Maui P900.. you might not care about speaker specifics but you'll certainly LOVE hearing music coming out of $8k worth of speakers!!
Here is an example of my DJ setup; check out my videos to see what this looks like at an event!
If you'd like me to take guest requests then I manage them so that I play the music requests that work within your music preferences and the crowd's energy, and if they request music that doesn't quite fit I'll do my best to work with them to find something they love that fits the event better. I will also never play songs/artists that are on your "Do Not Play" list.
When you read my reviews anywhere on the internet you'll see that couples appreciate "who I am" just as much as "what I do". The DJ is a big part of the vibe of your wedding day, and choosing the vibe that fits your vision is one of the most important decisions in how you and your guests will remember this day. Don't leave it up to chance!
My vibe is "upbeat & supportive". I act as the host of the party without ever making it about me. As a seasoned professional speaker I find the balance between upbeat, kind, professional, and personable. Every interaction with your guests is tailored to make the event flow smoothly and bring everyone together to feel a part of the celebration.
As a DJ everything is customized to each couple by working with you two to make the music fit your vibe & your story, while keeping the party going strong! I'm a professional DJ that uses modern transitions to keep the energy up and the music flowing smoothly. You'll never hear the full song played, I always choose the best 1.5 - 2 minutes of each song to keep the energy fresh.
Couples have left me reviews all over the internet! The most popular ones are:
1. Zola
2. Google
3. Wedding Wire
I have a "Videos" page with plenty of videos from events. I also put up many pictures, clips, and videos on my Instagram page: @MartyNightengaleDJ
Yes! I can make any edit, remix, or mashup that you can dream up; and I'll send all of it to you for approval, or extra edits, so that it's exactly what you're looking for. This is perfect for those times when you might want your first dance edited differently, your parent dances shortened, a custom mashup to surprise guests during a formal dance, a song remixed to have more energy for your introduction, or a custom edit of a song while you're walking down the aisle during the ceremony.
Most couples book me for their wedding about 10 to 24 months in advance. I work with a limited number of couples each year, if you're waiting to decide on your DJ I highly recommend reaching out sooner than later. If you'd like to see my current Saturday availability check out the list on my "Weddings" page. For any weddings on Sunday-Friday please contact me directly and I'll get back to you within 24 hours with my availability.
While I've never cancelled on a couple in the 15 years I've been doing this, it's important to have a backup plan. If there was ever an extreme situation that caused me to cancel, I have great relationships with the best solo & multi DJ companies in the area to be able to find a replacement that you will love. Because all of your song choices & wedding details are in my app, I can easily send the replacement DJ everything they'll need to be able to do the wedding smoothly. If the replacement DJ charges a higher fee than I do, I'll pay the extra to make sure you're covered and have the best possible DJ.
A tip is never required and there's zero pressure here. If you're thrilled with the experience you're having, a 5% - 10% tip is always a great way to show some extra love.
Yes! I am based in the Raleigh, NC area and travel regularly. There are additional travel fees for any events located more than 4 hours from Raleigh, NC. These fees may include flights, hotels, rental equipment, extra team members, etc. and I'm happy to offer you an accurate quote based on your event specifics.
I can mix any kind of music styles, but I'm not an expert when it comes to Latin, Country, Arabic-Pop, Bhangra, or Indi-Pop music styles. While I can comfortable play some of those styles, if you want the majority of your wedding dance music to be only one those styles then I would highly recommend finding a DJ that specializes in that specific style to give you an authentic experience.
You get me, Marty Nightengale. I'm a boutique DJ company with one DJ that gives the best possible experience to a limited number of couples. All of the videos & reviews you see are about me, and I'll be with you every step of the way from music planning to the last song of the night.
No, I download all of your music for the day onto my laptop, backup laptop, (2) tablets, and my phone. I also have thousands of the most popular songs in all music genres downloaded onto those devices. Wi-Fi is only used to help download a song request given during the event that I don't already have, and many times I can still use my phone's hot spot to download it if Wi-Fi isn't available. Wi-Fi is never needed for the party to go on!
I know wedding planning can be a lot, and I'm happy to make things easier in any way I can! Sometimes that's offering suggestions on music, giving tips on how to avoid awkward moments, giving timeline advice on how to keep the flow of the day fun, or tricks on how to avoid being the center of attention for too long (for anyone that does not love being the center of attention). Your entire wedding vendor team is there to help you; never feel bad about asking me/them for advice.. this is what we do best!
I'm not. If it's important to have a bilingual DJ that can communicate to your friends & family who do not speak English then I would highly recommend finding someone that is very comfortable as a bilingual emcee/host so everyone at the wedding feels included.
